Goldeen, is a fictional, Water-type Pokémon from the Pokémon franchise.
Name Origin
"Gold-" refers to the fact that it resembles a goldfish. The "-een" is most likely "queen," but it is possible that it is a simple feminine suffix (misspelling of "-ine").
The following is what Goldeen is known as around the world:
- United Kingdom: Goldeen (Goldy in the original Beta version)
- Germany: Goldini
- France: Poissirene
- Japan: トサキント (Tosakinto)
Biology
Goldeen is usually depicted as a colourful fish with a horn for attack purposes. It is said to be the most beautiful water Pokémon there is (only second to Milotic) and almost solely used by female in-game trainers. However, it might as well be a real fish for its looks and characteristics; both location-wise and attack-wise.
In the Computer Games
Super Smash Bros. Melee
Goldeen also appears in Super Smash Bros. Melee, where it does pretty much nothing (splash), although this role would be better associated with Magikarp. This may be a reference to the Pokémon anime, where in the first appearance of Goldeen, it just splashed around doing nothing (since it wasn't in water).
Game Boy
Glodeen is available is the following locations by fishing or surfing in:
- Blue/Red in Cerulean City, Fuchsia City, Seafoam Island, Cinnabar Island and routes 4, 12, 13, 17, 18, 19, 20, 21, 22, 24 and 25.
- Yellow in Cerulean City, Celadon City, Unknown Dungeon and routes 6 and 24.

Anime Appearances
Goldeen, being one of the original 150 Pokémon, has been in a lot of episodes, most notably Episode 208, where one is seen jumping out of the water to be caught by a Nurse Joy. Goldeen is also one of Misty's Pokémon. Among other appearances, it is seen in episode 2 (where it is captured) and episode 16 (where Misty sends her to look for a way out of the sinking ship and actually finds a drowning Team Rocket).
